Meeting on Thursday 8 October 2026 in Kinshasa under the chairmanship of the Head of State, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, the Strategic Council of the Agency for the Development of the Grand Inga Project (ADPI) discussed the options for structuring the project and its environmental and social implications.

‎

With the participation of the Prime Minister, Judith Suminwa, the President of the National Assembly, Aimé Boji, and the ALPI team, the discussions focused on the choices to guide the development of this vast hydroelectric project.

‎

In this context, the President of the Republic has paid particular attention to the local population, giving guidance to preserve their living conditions. The development of Grand Inga must therefore take into account the needs of the communities concerned, in parallel with its energy and economic objectives.

‎

Regarding the conduct of the project, the Director General of ADPI, Bob Mabiala, announced the recruitment of a project manager as part of World Bank financing.

‎

Through the Grand Inga project, the presidential ambition is to expand access to electricity and support the economic development of the DRC. In the long term, the project aims at a production capacity of 40,000 MW to meet the needs of the country and part of the African continent. In addition to this energy supply, the prospects presented also point to the potential for creating eight million jobs.
